Otoplasty (Ears Surgery)

This surgical procedure aims at restoring or correcting the ears’ deformities. It gets rid of protruding ears. The surgery will help you obtain excellent aesthetic results. Generally, the scar is hardly visible, since it is hidden behind the ear where the surgeon performs the incision.

The intervention

Before the surgery itself, the surgeon carries out a preoperative consultation. During such, the patient is subjected to an ear examination, a photographic and pre-anesthesia check-up. The procedure is performed by incisions in the crease located at the back of the ear.

Duration

The surgery can be performed in 1h30.

Anesthesia

Depending on the nature of the deformities in your ear, your age and the duration of the surgery, it can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation, or under general anesthesia.

Recovery

After the surgical operation, the doctor or surgeon usually prescribes painkillers. Swollen ears are normal and they will be sensitive for a few weeks. However, a bandage will be applied and should be kept for 24 or 48 hours at least, and it will, later on, be replaced by a light headband or helmet to wear for a few days. Sports activities should also be avoided, as well as wearing earrings.
