Arms lifting

An arm lift is a procedure that aims at removing excess skin from the inner surface of the arm and reduces fat by aspiration or liposuction.

The intervention

Repeated movement of the arms, age and significant weight loss can lead to sagging, causing the arm to collapse and the skin to hang.

General anesthesia is generally the most commonly used during arm lifting procedures. Depending on the size of the surgery, it can take between 1 h 30 to 2 hours. Hospitalization is not necessary unless recommended by the surgeon, and the patient can leave the clinic once the arm lifting has been performed.

This procedure helps tighten the skin located in the inner arms after the excess has been removed. For the most effective and efficient results, the surgeon removes the skin in a transverse and longitudinal manner.

Who can perform an arm lift?

  • Persons who have undergone a significant weight gain or loss, and that the skin of your arms hangs dangling.
  • Persons subject to skin ageing.
  • People who have already undergone liposuction on the arms, and who suffer from a problem of poor skin retraction.

What techniques are used for an arm lift?

The type of technique used for arm lift determines the type and length of the scar it leaves:

  • Longitudinal incision: this is the classic technique, and the incision is made on the inner surface of the arm. The excess skin here is removed in the transverse and longitudinal axis.
  • The horizontal incision: it is made in the armpit, and when the excess skin to be removed is very minor. The scar is invisible, since it is hidden in the fold of the armpit.
  • Combined lifting: this is used in cases where patients’ arms are much damaged. This technique combines horizontal and longitudinal incisions.

Recovery

After an arm lifting procedure, you may experience pain in the treated areas. The surgeon usually prescribes painkillers and antibiotics. Bruises may also appear but they normally disappear after a few days.

Recovery is generally not long. A week of rest is enough, and you will be able to resume with your professional activities. However, physical activities should be avoided for 1.5 months at least.

It is also recommended to wear compression garments for 21 days to allow. The results of the intervention are visible after 15 days, but it takes a period of 3 months to assess the final aesthetic result.
