Abdominoplasty

Significant weight loss and repeated pregnancies can strain a woman’s stomach or belly. Generally, the skin stretches and loses its tone. This situation might be embarrassing for some women since they will no longer be able to wear some clothes. In such cases, abdominoplasty helps improve the skin’s condition and appearance of the belly.

Procedure

This surgery is performed to tighten the belly’s skin and reduce imperfections like:

  • Sagging skin, by bringing the muscles closer to the abdomen
  • Stretch marks, by removing or reducing the marks they leave
  • Loss of tone, by getting rid of excess skin.

Concerning the procedure, an incision is performed by the surgeon around the pubic area. This technique enables him to take off the skin from the fat, before stretching it back and draping the healthy part down.

Duration

Tummy tuck surgery takes about 3 hours, depending on the size of the reduction to be performed.

Anesthesia

Because this procedure is a rather heavy one, it is performed under general or local anesthesia with sedation, with a few days of hospitalization.

Recovery

Pain and bruises generally appear during the first few days after the surgery. However, the surgeon prescribes painkillers and antibiotics. It is not recommended to engage in any form of physical activities right after the surgery.

Stitches are removed a few days after the abdominoplasty and the use of a panty is highly recommended.
